Off-Offers in the Summer!

Ravi-Kumar Knutson, Residence Life Director and Learning Resource Center Assistant, Bluffton University
This summer was a huge struggle for me both educationally and emotionally. It took me a long time to adjust to the rigor of graduate work along with being over a thou- sand miles away from all my friends and family. Luckily, the support of my cohort and the faculty got me through the struggles of boot camp. I got to learn amazing things about higher education while visiting new places like Windsor, ON and Cleveland, OH (which is apparently not Detroit) with my wonderful new falcon friends.

Boot camp was one of the most academically challenging things I have ever taken part in. However, with that being said it was also one of the most fantastic! I think the challenge of the summer courses really brought to the forefront camaraderie/ support between both the off-offer cohort and the faculty. My favorite part about the summer, was absolutely, the bonding activities that were planned by Michaelan- gelo. This allowed us to really get to know the city of Bowling Green, but more im- portantly it let us get to know each other and the second years, which is something I really cherished.

Danielle GrossGraduate Assistant for Student Affairs, Tiffin University
Traveling from Washington State, Texas, Vermont, Pennsylvania, or from within Ohio; the off-offer eight gathered in June to embark on the exhilarating, exhausting, encompassing experience that is summer courses for the College Student Personnel program. Between learning (relearning, or refining) the ability to write at a graduate level in APA format, trips to University of Michigan and Cuyahoga Community Col- lege, interviews with students, and living our voices; the group took time to enjoy Bowling Green. Who would have guessed that such a small town could have so many delicious places to eat, diverse places to study, and opportunities for forming lasting bonds? Bootcamp granted the off-offers with an intensive glimpse into the upcoming two years of graduate education, while stocking the toolkit to be able to assess student development prior to training in our internships. Additionally, the support established within the group and from the local second-years made the ex- perience all the more pleasant! Welcome to our fellow incoming CSP first years, and welcome back to our second years – Here’s to a fantastic year in Higher Education!
